Volunteer for the Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup on April 16

On April 16, volunteers are invited to pick up litter along lake roads during the sixth annual Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup.

Hundreds of volunteers are expected, and they will receive a free lunch and will be entered into a drawing for door prizes. Free T-shirts will be given away, while supplies last.

“It really makes a difference, and people really notice the efforts made here to keep our county clean,” said Cumberland County Judge-Executive John A. Phelps, Jr.

“I often hear many folks from other counties and other parts of Kentucky and even other states brag about, how clean Cumberland County is,” he said. “I believe we have Eastern Kentucky PRIDE, our local staff and our wonderful community volunteers to thank for such wonderful comments made by our visitors to the area.”

“‘No Place Like Home’ is our Spring Cleanup theme this year, and that’s certainly true for the communities around Dale Hollow Lake,” said PRIDE’s Tammie Wilson. “This area is beautiful, and the lake is a special attraction.”

“We all know that our homes need a spring cleaning each year, and it’s more fun when we work together,” she said. “Please bring your family and friends to volunteer on April 16.”

“The Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup has become one of the most successful PRIDE events in the region, and I want to thank the local sponsors for their leadership,” Wilson added. “They are the Cumberland County Fiscal Court, Clinton County Fiscal Court, Dale Hollow State Resort Park, Hendricks Creek Resort and Sulphur Creek Resort.”

On April 16, volunteer registration will begin at 9 a.m. CT at these locations: Clinton County Court House, Hendricks Creek Dock, Sulphur Creek Dock and the Dale Hollow State Resort Park picnic area.

At registration, volunteers will receive trash bags, gloves and safety vests. They will be directed to an area to clean. Safe, age-appropriate cleanup areas will be available for groups with children, such as schools and churches.

From 10 a.m. until Noon, volunteers will pick up litter along the roads around the lake.

At Noon, volunteers will gather for a free cook-out at the picnic area at Dale Hollow State Resort Park. The door prize drawing will be held during the cook-out.

The Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup is part of the PRIDE Spring Cleanup campaign across 42 counties of southern and eastern Kentucky. The region-wide PRIDE Spring Cleanup is sponsored by Outdoor Venture Corporation, Walmart, East Kentucky Power Cooperative and Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors, Inc.
