2008-09 PRIDE Club Winner

Contest: Create PRIDE’s theme for 2009 and use the theme to design a T-shirt for the 2009 PRIDE Spring Cleanup.

Out of 600 contest entries, the winner was Kelsi Felts, an eighth-grader at Whitley County Middle School.

PRIDE honors Kelsi Felts for her help with Spring Cleanup Month in April

Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-5) presented the region’s PRIDE Volunteer of the Month Award to Felts during a ceremony at her school on Feb. 27, 2010. Rogers and Felts unveiled the 2009 PRIDE Spring Cleanup T-shirt during the awards ceremony.

Felts’ T-shirt design was selected from 600 entries submitted by PRIDE Club members across 38 counties.  Her winning design featured the PRIDE mascot, J. Waterford the frog, wearing an Uncle Sam hat and saying, “I want you to leap into PRIDE!”

Felts learned about PRIDE in science class. A gifted student in visual arts, she got the idea for her design after seeing J. Waterford on a friend’s bag, according to Heather Alder Stewart, the District Reading Specialist/PRIDE Coordinator.
