Hospitality Training

Excellent customer service goes a long way to earn repeat business and positive reviews, and that is the goal of a new hospitality training program offered by Eastern Kentucky PRIDE in partnership with Eastern Kentucky University Work Force Development.

The two-hour training session features the BLISS (Business Leadership Innovation Service and Style) curriculum. It is designed to show front-line employees the importance of hospitality when dealing with guests – especially tourists – in order to make a good impression that will lead to return visits and endorsements through word of mouth and social media.

Topics include:

  • Body language
  • Attire
  • Telephone, email and social media etiquette
  • Dealing with disruptive customers
  • Interacting with coworkers
  • Understanding your value to the local economy

PRIDE launched the BLISS hospitality training program to meet the needs of the hospitality industry and tourism officials in southern and eastern Kentucky. The program is based on PRIDE’s mission to enhance the quality of life in the region by improving the environment and developing the tourism industry.

Career Development Training for Schools

The BLISS training can be tailored to assist students with the “soft skills” they will need to enter the job market. The Career Development training includes such topics as:

  • Writing resumes
  • Participating in a job interview

Instructor

Michelle Allen, EKU Regional Outreach Agent, is the trainer. An EKU graduate and a Nationally Certified Trainer, Allen has trained over 15, 000 front-line employees in some capacity across Kentucky.

Audience

The universal training will appeal to any business or organization that serves customers or promotes tourism, including:

  • Restaurants
  • Retail
  • Hospitals
  • Tourism councils
  • Trail Towns

The training is appropriate for anyone in these businesses and organizations, from front-line employees to managers to owners.

For the Career Development training, the audience is students who are preparing to enter the workforce. Schools and Family Resource and Youth Services Centers are examples of organizations that would schedule the training for students.

PRIDE will provide the training anywhere in Kentucky.
