Details about Great Saltpetre Cave Festival

Great Saltpetre Cave Preserve invites you to the Saltpetre Festival at Open House, May 19 (9 am-5 pm) and May 20 (10 am - 4 pm).

Great Saltpetre Cave was a significant source of saltpetre during the War of 1812. In this bicentennial year, help celebrate Kentucky’s history. You can enjoy:

  • Guided tours of the cave
  • Free soup beans and cornbread
  • Food concession stand operated by the Livingston Fire Department
  • Souvenir concession stand
  • Miles of hiking trails
  • The picnic lunch you bring

Special features for 2012:

  • 1800-1815 living history encampment
  • Book Nook – local history, local authors
  • Demonstration saltpetre vat

Admission is free, but donations are always appreciated!
