PRIDE welcomes Angela Traver as its new Program Director.

Angela Traver has joined the staff of Eastern Kentucky PRIDE, Inc., which is based in Somerset and serves 42 counties in southern and eastern Kentucky.

As the PRIDE Program Director, Traver will guide and promote the nonprofit organization’s environmental education, cleanup and beautification programs. She will coordinate with local officials, teachers and volunteers to tailor the programs to communities across the region.

“We are thrilled to welcome Angela to our staff,” said Tammie Wilson, PRIDE President and Chief Operating Officer.

“Angela has lived and worked on both ends of our region, and she has extensive experience in the tourism industry, so she has a clear vision of the immense potential that lies within our diverse, unique landscape,” Wilson said. “She is ready to work closely with communities on projects that lead to a cleaner, healthier, more inviting region.”

“I’m very excited to be part of the PRIDE team,” Traver said. “As an avid hiker and kayaker, I appreciate how important taking care of our environment is and PRIDE really works hard to be a valuable resource in southern and eastern Kentucky.”

“We have so many wonderful natural assets in southern and eastern Kentucky,” Traver added. “It is great that an organization like PRIDE exists to help protect the natural beauty of our land and waterways as well as educate people about environmental responsibility.”

Traver, who graduated from Morehead State University, has worked in the tourism industry for more than 15 years in various capacities, including Advertising/Marketing Manager at the Frankfort Tourism Commission, Public Relations Manager at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort and Executive Director of the Rowan County Arts Center in Morehead.

Traver currently serves on Somerset’s Watershed Arts Alliance board and the Morehead Theatre Guild. She was as a member of Morehead Tourism’s TRAC committee for Trail Town initiatives, resulting in Morehead becoming an official Trail Town in 2014.

Traver lives in Somerset with her husband, Brett Traver, and their 10-year-old daughter, Josie.

PRIDE, which stands for “Personal Responsibility In a Desirable Environment,” was founded in 1997 by Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-5) and the late James Bickford, who was the Kentucky Secretary for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. The PRIDE mission is to contribute to the economic and cultural growth of southern and eastern Kentucky by improving water quality, cleaning up solid waste problems and advancing environmental education, in order to improve living conditions for its residents while enhancing the potential for tourism industry growth in the region.
