Volunteers picked up enough roadside litter near Dale Hollow Lake to fill 485 trash bags during the 8th annual Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup, which was held Saturday, April 21.

The 122 volunteers enjoyed beautiful weather as they cleaned the roads leading to the lake.

After the cleanup, the volunteers gathered at Dale Hollow State Resort Park for a free cookout and door prizes, including pontoon rentals at Sulphur Creek Resort and Hendricks Creek Resort.

“The drive to Dale Hollow Lake will be more scenic now, thanks to the community-wide effort,” said Tammie Wilson of PRIDE, which is one of the cleanup organizers.

“I want to thank the volunteers who came out on Saturday, as well as the businesses and organizations that donated food, door prizes and services needed to pull off such a big event,” Wilson said. “This cleanup has been a success since 2011 because this community pulls together as a team.”

“It really was a fun day,” Wilson added. “If everyone could volunteer for one cleanup like this one, I really think they would be hooked. Groups enjoyed working together, and the fellowship at the picnic was great. Of course, it was rewarding to see that the roads were cleaner as we left. Being a PRIDE volunteer is just a great way to spend a spring day.”

Wilson thanked the partners who help organize the annual Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup: Cumberland County Fiscal Court, Clinton County Fiscal Court, Dale Hollow State Resort Park, Hendricks Creek Resort and Sulphur Creek Resort.

The Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup is part of the PRIDE Spring Cleanup campaign across 42 counties of southern and eastern Kentucky. The region-wide PRIDE Spring Cleanup is sponsored by Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperative, Walmart, Outdoor Venture Corp., and Kentucky American Water.
