Laurel Lake Cleanup, April 26

It’s time to give Laurel Lake its traditional spring cleaning.

Volunteers of all ages are invited to join the 26th annual Laurel Lake Cleanup on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Volunteer registration will open at 8 a.m. at the spillway beach at Laurel River Dam.

All volunteers will receive a free lunch, and they will be entered in a drawing for door prizes.

All volunteers can compete for the “Catch of the Day” prize for finding the most unusual piece of trash.

Laurel County and Whitley County will compete for the “Cleanup Cup,” which is awarded to the county with the most volunteers.

Boat owners are encouraged to bring their boats when they check in at the spillway. They will receive trash bags and a map directing them to the spots with the most trash.

Volunteers do not need to bring a boat. Some boat transportation will be available for participants who do not have their own boat to get to trash cleanup sites. Volunteers can also clean up trash accessible by land transportation.

Volunteer groups may fill out their waiver forms ahead of time and bring the completed forms to the registration area on Saturday morning. The forms may be picked up at the London Ranger District Office, Holly Bay Marina and Grove Marina. The forms may be printed at the bottom of the page at www.kypride.org/spring-cleanup.

All volunteers should dress for the event by wearing long pants, sturdy shoes, gloves, sunscreen, a hat and other weather-appropriate clothing. PRIDE will provide gloves, trash bags and safety vests.

The Laurel Lake Cleanup is organized by the U.S. Forest Service, PRIDE, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Laurel and Whitley County Governments, Friends of Laurel Lake, London-Laurel County Tourism Commission and others, including concerned citizens and businesses in the Whitley and Laurel County area.

For more information, please call the London Ranger District Office at 606-864-4163.
